Eszter Gál Coaching Skinner Releasing Technique & Improvisation Towards Composition
29.05.2017 – 02.06.2017

Each day of the workshop consists of 2 parts. The first, in the morning, focuses on the “Skinner Releasing Technique” (SRT) by Joan Skinner. This unique and pioneering method of practicing movement over the past forty years has become one of the most important techniques on the contemporary dance scene. During SRT exercises, one can free oneself from what holds us back in our bodies and explore movement and being set in motion by a particular image (imagery), experiencing a deeper state of consciousness in which the dance and the dancer become one. These exercises teach us to be aware of and observe in real time what is happening. They embrace imagery as a powerful tool for transformation. SRT combines technical development with the creative process and brings us closer to the true uniqueness of our self.

The afternoon session is devoted to improvisation (including contact) framed by composition. Morning preparation in the form of “releasing” can significantly support the exploration of communication through touch, yielding to gravity, and falling and rising with a given impulse. And the various methods of “choreographic improvisation” offer multiple ways of relating to each other, to space, time and synchronicity, and to the forms that emerge from them. All of this leads to a perfectly attuned, simultaneously delicate and powerful, open and lively improvisation, during which the moment “speaks”.
