Zmiana Warty. Pinacoteca
23.09.2004 – 08.10.2004

The first exhibition presented the work of Lukasz Kiepuszewski and Marek Glinkowski. The former studied in the studios of Prof. Norbert Skupniewicz (graduated in 1999) and Prof. Jaroslaw Kozlowski, as well as obtained an MA in art history at the Adam Mickiewicz University. Glinkowski received a diploma with honors in drawing from Prof. Kozlowski and in printmaking from Prof. Jackowski, and has been a trainee assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts since 2000.

The works shown at the exhibition were a commentary on the present through an analysis of art traditions. Kiepuszewski undertook an analysis of texture and paint. By allowing the viewer to commune with the matter of the work, he brought him to a higher level of initiation. Glinkowski hung the gallery walls with decorative frames with brass plaques, in which visitors could find their reflection.

The removal of the representation mobilized viewers to generate their own imaginations that could fill in the blanks in the frames. In both cases, the images slipped out of the frames. On a historical level, this was a commentary on the emancipatory processes of modernist painting, which, by getting rid of the academic frame, tried to escape the connotations associated with tradition. Part of this emancipation is also the abandonment of representation.
