This interactive show is an invitation for whole families to explore the alphabet of motor imagination though abstraction. By testing the boundaries between the solid and the fluid, the clear and the blurred, the tangible and the ephemeral, the participants get a change to discover new levels of their creativity. The installation encourages them to play with movement, establish meanings, and share an experience as a family by engaging in contemporary dance. The performance is also an opportunity to negotiate the images and shapes created together by the performers and the participants, and to develop a dialogue between their different forms. Will they all fit on one stage at the end?

Workshops for Children and Parents
Warsztaty dla rodzin z dziećmi w wieku 4-6 lat
13.04.2019

The aim of this workshop is to get young participants and their parents interested in working with the body and choreography. Dance will serve as a guide to getting to know one’s own body, as well as the bodies of people close to one another, and to being together (by being in the body!). This will be an opportunity for family creative activity and group work. The class will consist of an energetic warm-up that will guide the breath through the parts of the body (feet, hips, abdomen, heart, head) and place us between the center of the earth and the distant cosmos. Further tasks will be based on movement improvisation, choreographic games, exercises to sharpen the senses and introduce elements of work with touch. We will describe movement with words and drawings, encouraging the development of poetic thinking, and combining inner feelings with expression and description. Using techniques that suggest relaxing the body, small and large participants will also learn simple methods useful for self-regulation and coping with everyday stress.

The workshop invitates to a space where both children and their parents/caregivers experience the pleasure of natural free movement, contact with their bodies, and a dancing relationship with others. Through movement and dance play we will learn from each other and develop creativity in movement with others. Both children and adults will move in harmony with each other, their own rhythms and abilities.

Movement together stimulates the senses, sparks children’s creativity, develops relationships, and teaches acceptance, while natural dance allows for free expression and helps build self-identity. The parent/guardian playing together with the children awakens their “inner child”.

Coaching

Our first language is our body language. The psychophysical foundation of how we perceive, respond and behave in the world is established in the womb and in our early childhood. An embodied understanding of movement development from the first two years of life is a valuable resource for anyone who works with children – from birth through early adulthood.

The three-day coaching combines several somatic methods (IBMT, BMC®, experimental anatomy, contact improvisation, authentic movement) with the latest theories and research on child development. Somatic approaches can provide effective and simple support for infants, children, and adolescents facing a variety of challenges related to learning, development, or emotion regulation.

This short training will allow participants to see how the somatic approach strengthens their body awareness and facilitates being in the body. During the training, participants will learn a series of somatic exercises based on the development of specific body parts during the prenatal period and practice movement sequences consistent with early infant development, which consequently stimulates brain development. The training will have a practical and theoretical dimension. The practical part will be based on exploring experiences through feeling, moving and touching.

The training is addressed to people working with infants, children and adolescents in various educational and health care contexts. It will broaden the knowledge of artists and trainers working in the field of dance, music and theater for children, as well as educators, social workers, midwives, doulas, physiotherapists, pediatric nurses, teachers and psychologists interested in developing movement patterns.

The workshop is open to parents with a child aged 6-8 years. Workshop participants will learn new forms of work through the participation of children with their caregivers, and those attending the demonstration lesson will have the opportunity to experience movement together during the hour-long workshop.

Snap! and we’ll switch to mysterious stories told by a moving body. Snap! and we’ll put our imaginations in motion, sparked by sound. “Snap” is a workshop for families who want to strengthen bonding through movement and touch. It is a time for parents to observe the kinesthetic creativity of children and children of parents. A time to get in touch with your body and enjoy movement. A time to listen to your body’s needs. And time for crazy movement almost in the dark….

Comfortable clothes will help us feel comfortable while moving. We dance without shoes, on a friendly ballet floor.

Dance Class for Children

Since 2011 Old Brewery New Dance for Children program has been focusing on the development of contemporary dance for the youngests. The program offered movement workshops and presented the most interesting dance performances prepared with children audiences in mind. We know what is happening in the world of dance education and we want to use this knowledge to create a regular dance group for children. Through movement games and free improvisation Hanna Bylka-Kanceka will create space for children to develop imagination and body awareness, to strengthen motor coordination and above all – to enjoy and release creative expression. Dancing kids on the move!
