Reality these days is shaped by various systems of images that have become the contemporary form of communication. Icons, signs and symbols become a new language, while the act of reading becomes progressively overwhelmed by plain seeing. The ability of uncritically perceiving these images results from their overpowering number. Quantity trumps quality so significantly, that society seems completely unable to perceive symbolic visual messages.
The #naukaczytania exhibition took on matters of visual illiteracy. The question of the shallowness of the reception of art was posed, where simple staring frequently replaced a true attempt to read. The pieces of work collected were presented as pieces of a puzzle, and were to induce the viewer to look and question.
