The Choreographic Think Tank is a research project dedicated to the practices, methods and tools developed at the intersection of the Polish and international contemporary dance scene, using the interview format as a means of generating knowledge and making it public. It aims to bring closer the activity of Polish choreographers through a joint reflection on their working methods, the concepts that drive their creative processes, the history of their practices and the contexts in which the artists work.
The Choreographic Think Tank was interested in dance as a culture of knowledge, in which information and skills are primarily generated in bodies and transmitted through bodies. Knowledge that circulates between the stage, studio, gallery, museum, workshops, laboratories, browser windows, computer disks and other spaces where choreography and dance are performed. First and second hand knowledge, which transforms as it migrates between bodies and contexts. Knowledge that is sometimes difficult to translate into words.
The central part of the project became a series of conversations with selected Polish choreographers. The interviews were the result of participation in rehearsals for performances, situations of regular practice and sessions where together with the artists tasks specific to their practice were performed. In addition to transcripts of the interviews, the specially created website included materials from the archives of the project participants (texts, notes, photos, graphics, scoring, audio and video recordings) and materials created during study visits (e.g. notes from rehearsals, recordings, photos, comments).
