I expect my life. I expect myself. How I imagine myself.
Sam Shepard “Action”

“Akcja” [Action] is the second full-length piece by Good Girl Killer dance/performance/musical collective. Their first work, “Good Girl Killer” (which premiered in March 2005), brought the artists invitations to dance festivals in Warsaw (“Body-Mind”) and Prague (“Four Days”), as well as to theatre festival in Poznan (“Malta”). “Akcja” [Action] is based on Sam Shepard’s eponymous drama, in which he analyses the moment of crossing the borderline between one’s extreme states of the “I”. Ostensible stillness pulses with the rhythm of tight, intense physical presence of the protagonists, and their spiritual absence. GGK try to interpret the drama using dance, music, rhythm and visualisations, as well as sampling original and translated fragments of the text. Audiences will have an opportunity to briefly enter an isolated house on the outskirts of civilisation. There, they will meet four characters waiting for an official dinner. Emotionally overactive, the characters are torn between the inner “I” and the outer shell. In “Akcja” [Action], GGK wish to create a theatrical/performer situation dwelling on man’s inability to escape his blood and identity, as well as on human disagreement to such determination.

In “Akcja” [Action], the artists managed to accomplish a truly exceptional feat, indeed. Not only did they create original and intriguing choreography, which perfectly matches the formula of contemporary dance theatre, but also enriched it with elements typical of the dramatic theatre or the art of performance. Good Girl Killer confirmed their quality (already apparent in “Good Girl Killer”, their début piece), producing one of the best dance performances to emerge from the Gdansk scene in recent years.
