Jared Gradinger and Angela Schubot are a duo of Berlin-based performers and choreographers. The guiding theme of their work is stripping the body of its boundaries. The starting point is the search for bodily commonality which allows for an escape from one’s own individuality.
Since 2001 (which dates back to their collaboration in Constanza Macras / Dorky Park) Gradinger / Schubot have shared an interest in purely physical, yet extremely dynamic body practices strongly informed by theoretical reflection. In 2009 they created their first duet “What they are instead of”, considered one of the best German dance productions and presented at Deutsche Tanzplattform 2010, Tanz im August / Sommerbar, in Hebbel am Ufer Berlin, in Dancehouse Melbourne, as well as in many other places around the world – both in theatrical and non-theatrical spaces (in galleries, music clubs, outdoors). The production remains in the artists’ repertoire. Gradinger/Schubot offer workshops around the world that encourage young artists to translate thought into physical action. Their laboratories support the artistic development of students by “unlearning” their habits learned in previous education while proposing to apply contemporary theoretical reflection to the body and choreography.
