Culmination of the series by Piotr Bernatowicz: Changing The Guard – Summary group exhibition (27.10 – 27.11.2005). The exhibition was accompanied by the scientific conference Inwazja Młodych Artystów, czyli skąd się biorą Pokemony? (Invasion of Young Artists or Where PokÈmons Came From) with participation of critics, journalists and curators, among them Łukasz Gorczyca, Stach Szabłowski, Przemysław Jędrowski and Piotr Kowalik. Recently, many new Polish artists have stepped into the spotlight. One spectacular example of this process is the glittering fame of Wilhelm Sasnal and other painters from “Grupa Ładnie”. The name of the exhibition quotes a slogan which frequently appears in art magazines, galleries, and at various art festivals. CHANGING THE GUARD was a presentation of young artists from Poznań. The objective of the conference was to explain the popularity of “young art”. Is it a sign of generational change, expression of concern for the new generation of artists or for strategies of the art market? Is it influenced by the context of changes in the political system and opening to the West? The conference accompanying CHANGING THE GUARD exhibition was meant to capture these questions in a theoretical frame.
