Sudden Birds in a white empty space, with an electric cello, 4 women begin by simply standing – and continue on to an exploration through layers of the found, familiar and fantastic. Relating to one another through role playing, they test the physical and emotional boundaries that separate them. The work develops through a repetitive configuration, which entangles them, as it attempts at defining and redefining itself. The complexity of these layers being played out one against the other, builds an evocative and emotional narrative spectrum brought out in highly detailed and luscious physicality.

“This work by Yasmeen Godder disturbs the soul. It touches the pain, madness and badness in extreme and merciless ways, all of its elements creating a complete perfection.”

Gabi Eldor, Ha’iir November 2002

“This intriguing, fine sensitive dance…..deals with the more enigmatic emotions and relationships. Godder has a unique inquisitive mind and an original lexicon of movement, on top of good sense of timing. ‘Sudden Birds’ is an impressive creation by a talented choreographer.”

Ora Brafman, Jerusalem Post November 2002

“With talent, originality and great professionalism, a nightmare has been created.”

Ruth Eshel, Ha’aretz November 2002

“Whoever has not seen “Sudden Birds” hasn’t seen one of the most original and amazing dance performances of this period”

Ruti Dierector, Hai’ir October 2003
