The lecture will address the issues of abstraction, realism, collage, sketch, and the “atlas” in the oeuvre of Jadwiga Maziarska.

In 2009, Barbara Piwowarska curated the artist’s retrospective show in CSW Zamek Ujazdowski in Warsaw. She is also the author and editor of two publications: Jadwiga Maziarska. Letters and Sketches (2006) and Jadwiga Maziarska. Atlas of the Imagined (2009). The perspective proposed in them attempts to reinterpret Maziarska’s art in reference to “photographic mediation” and to the creative process that shaped a set of newspaper clippings collected since the 1940s, and the way the artist used them.
