To work while not working
To talk while not even whispering
To grasp the ungraspable
To meet the ones that are no longer present
To thank those who still are
To open one’s heart
Lang refers to a specific manner of body movement in one of the Chinese martial arts styles (Tang Lang). The style (also called the style of death) was created as one of the last, great Chinese martial arts systems. The warrior’s posture, which absorbs the opponent’s energy this way destroying both of them, became the inspiration for the spectacle. The movement and the choreography in the spectacle take advantage of widely understood butoh dance techniques.
“Red symbolizes the death of vital energies and this in turn makes it possible to reuse them in order to create a new vital channel for our hearts to work…”
