Right before the presentation of Alice Chauchat’s solo “quotation marks me”(12.05), in which the artist juxtaposes two visions of dance – modern (Doris Humphrey) and post modern (Yvonne Rainer). During our next meeting we will go through the dance revolution of the sixties and the, impossible as it seems, proposal included in Yvonne Rainer’s manifesto (1965).

No to spectacle
No to virtuosity
No to transformations & magic & make believe
No to the glamour & transcendency of the star image
No to the heroic
No to the antiheroic
No to trash imaginery
No to involvement of performer or spectator
No to style
No to camp
No to seduction of spectator by the wiles of the performer
No to eccentricity
No to moving or being moved
(Yvonne Rainer, 1965)

Not only will the lecture be an introduction to Alice’s performance, but also a preview of Yvonne Rainer’s first visit in Poland. She will be our guest of honour during this year Malta Festival. She will give a lecture at the opening of The Old Brewery New Dance at Malta Festival (25.06) and will be showing materials on her works, as well as her own full-length films during the rest of the festival. You cannot miss this exciting and unique meeting with a living legend of the avant-garde choreography!
