Rosemarie Trockel – She Came and Stayed. The Art of Touch
01.06.2012
Galeria Art Stations

Rosemarie Trockel is one of the world’s most respected contemporary German artists, but she remains as yet relatively unknown to the viewing public in Poland.

Rosemarie Trockel’s works are demanding – she creates distance without lapsing into cynicism, not by means of grand gestures, but through subtle humour. Her work is not easy to read or interpret, it cannot be pigeonholed or easily categorized. Her works are permeated with empathy and compassion, alongside scepticism. What is this compassion? Is it directed outwards or rather inward? Does it represent a form of self-admiration or perhaps a real desire to be part of the fate of others? What artistic means can express such an openness to others, to that which is foreign and unintelligible? The purpose of this lecture is to find answers to these questions.

Rosemarie Trockel’s work will be the focus of a lecture by prof. Beate Söntgen, a German scholar, critic and expert in Trockel’s art; she is head of the Department of Art History at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg in Germany, and writes for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Texte zur Kunst.

Due to the use of simultaneous translation, the number of participants is limited. Registration for the lecture is required by May 28. You can do so by sending an e-mail to: k.pakulo @ artstationsfoundation5050.com
