An International Laboratory for Choreographers and Artists
The main aim of Resonance is the creation of conditions which would enable young artists, and especially young choreographers from three different European countries, to analyze their achievements. The venue puts particular stress on generating an environment conducive to reflection, as well as ideas, experiences and information exchange.
After a two weeks long laboratory in Belgrade (October 2007), artists from Poland, Serbia and Switzerland will meet in Poznań to continue their work on the projects proposed by them. This peculiar meeting of artists representing different fields of art, diverse methods of work, a variety of styles and techniques, creates a space opened for reflection over the essence of permeation of various forms, posing questions about the interpretation of messages carried by contemporary arts.
A week long meeting in Stary Browar (the Old Brewery) will become an experimental attempt to combine the disciplines of contemporary arts: choreography, dance, music, visual arts and architecture. The results of the artists’ work will be available for the audience from March the 15th.
The artistic exchange between choreographers and the representatives of other art fields rarely takes place in Poland, and is rather limited to a ”utilization” of the work of other artists. Hence, a chance to share experience in work situations does not exist. Also, Polish artists have hardly any opportunity to work with colleagues from abroad, thus, a dispute forum practically does not exist.
The Belgrade and Poznań meetings have a unique quality to them. Their aim is artistic exchange and integration without the pressure to create any final product. The venue turns its attention towards the process of creation, not the product, and supports it. The laboratory and the collective work generates an opportunity for personal encounters, as well as experiences, ideas and inspirations exchange between the Polish, Serbian and Swiss artists. It is led by two moderators: Joanna Szymajda and Ana Vujanović.
The laboratory in Poznań will end in an opened meeting/presentation and a dispute concerning its participants’ experiences. Such an opened confrontation creates a chance for the audience to encounter an entirely unknown, however incredibly interesting, process of creation, as well as the ”inside” of the dance scene.
