What would be Midsummer night ritual today? What ballad would romantic poets write if they were to live in 21st century? Is a language of contemporary dance able to express relentless Spirit of Slavic nations? Is this Spirit still able to posses people bodies when moved from lakes and forests into Stary Browar modern architecture?
During the performance, the audience walking through Browar’s maze, will actively witness a summer solstice? The public will be first invited just to listen to ethnographic and bit gothic tale as of 19th century romance.. Irrational sounds and song of the sentimental soul can wake up desires and echo a catastrophe from far past. Forgotten awareness of rituals and myths may return with double force to remind us of the ancient culture we do not feel attached to anymore…
Performers movement bringing ritual back to life, calling for a summer of love, will shake our senses and last till exhaustion. Summer solstice is a search for what seems to be lost – an ancient ballad in Stary Browar spaces.
The project is inspired by poems of Bolesław Leśmian, by Slavic rituals and legends connected to summer solstice and the stereotyped image of what is considered “romantic” – longing for mystery, moments of spiritual madness and a bit of a thrill.
