The projects aims in establishing a platform of choreographic exchange between Polish and New York based dance communities with the special focus on the mission of supporting choreographic development and promoting an idea of shared choreographic practices as best way not only to share and generate knowledge and discourse around the art of choreography, but also as efficient tool to bring closer comminutes, exchange artistic ideas and experiences and foster individual development of artists.
Following years of experience in supporting growth of Polish choreography and in breaking down isolation of Polish dance from international communities as well as in trying to provide artists with exciting and challenging opportunities and tools for choreographic development, Art Stations Foundation within its Old Brewery New Dance Program, together with Music and Dance Institute Warsaw and Polish Culture Institute in NYC, and in collaboration with Movement Research, established the project based on artistic dialogue, research, and choreographic reflection.
Favoring process over product and believing in an empowering model of education based on shared choreographic practices we have developed an program of exchange for 2 NY based and 2 Poland based choreographers. It offered artists study visits/research residencies led by believe that opportunity to travel to far distanced country and enter completely new and different dance community, enriched by the possibility of not only witnessing works, but first of all meeting people in studio for practical exchange of ideas and practices, constitutes often a formative experience and inspires own research and development in the best possible way.
NY based artists were visiting Poznan in June/July and as the climax of their visit they were joining the annual Old Brewery New Dance at Malta festival. Two Polish choreographers every year paid their visit to NYC in November taking classes of Movement Research Fall Festival and the climax of their stay was a presentation of their practice and/or fragments of works within Monday presentations at legendary Judson Church.
