Since the Performance “Music Box” in the Message Salon gallery in Zurich in 1994, in which visitors could put a coin in a box, so that one side of this box opened and showed the two performers like robots in a juke-box, Minimetal (Nik Emch and Laurent Goei) has been working on the question of Innerspace and Outerspace. The Box (3 x 3 x 3 meters), always centerpiece of their performances, is the rehearsal room in which experiences are made. It is a projectionssurface with innerlife. The surfaces of the walls allow to show images; Images or films of the life inside the box as well as assocationspictures of present or past events.

Minimetal composed the song “problems…” 2003 in New York. At that time, the collaboration of both artists was marked by massiv conflicts; They lived and worked in one same studio in Manhattan but spoke none a word to eachother during weeks. In 2007, they transposed that song into a performance for the theater. This performance tells the story of a Container, in which two black africans on the loose try to survive. As they are locked and confined in this box, they dream of a better life, without knowing what is happening around them.
