The idea of the spectacle was inspired by Peter Sloterdijk’s book Zorn und Zeit (Anger and Time). The claims advanced by the book’s author seemed to resonate with Marco Berrettini’s own intuitions, doubts and reflections on modern culture, mechanisms of power, posession and overwhelming consummerism. Berrettini was particularly impressed by the different historical époques, which the book goes through, one after another. As he had always admired all the filmmakers, who change several times the historical context inside of the same movie, he was tempted to try out the same procedure for iFeel. But in opposition to many artists who exploit pseudo-militant veins, he wanted to concentrate his piece on the absence of superficial references. His aim was to create a dance-show which describes people who live at the border between an eager socialisation and the withdrawal towards themselves. As he says: “The historical events and the present tendencies appear to me as cursors of a sound-mixing table. If one changes the tone, the space or the time of a sound or of a movement, everything changes. A simple look, executed with a different timing, can transform a harmless curiosity into a sick obsession. This example shows perfectly the bases of my choreographic approach”.
