“Hygiene of Identity” is a performative practice in form of a collective ritual. Three performers question their own identity and through insisting on individual daily rituals, they aim in discovering the unconscious ‘I’. The concept of ‘hygiene’ refers directly to habits of keeping our bodies and houses clean, installed in us from early childhood. Accepting the habit, we allow ourselves consciously to ‘not know’, and to recognize ourselves anew, again and again. Thus we discover our identity as a kind of mindfulness, an existential self-awareness, and a sense of belonging to the community.
