Katarzyna Sitarz
Between Body and Voice
2019

The research project explored the relationship between the human body and voice on a physical (neuro/biological, physiological or somatic) as well as scientific and cultural level.

Combining many years of deepening voice and body practices with her developing knowledge of the human being and the mechanisms that influence it, as well as her training at the Lichtenberger Institute for Voice Physiology in Fischbachtal, Katarzyna focused not only on the theoretical aspects of the issue, but also on the practical ways of applying the tools she has acquired (both in her artistic practice and in her therapeutic, self-development and educational work). By treating the body and voice as an instrument, a universal space for expression and development, a tool available to everyone regardless of age, background, social status, or economic situation, the project aimed to provide insight into the practical and theoretical object of research so that the knowledge and experience generated in the body can reach a wider audience.

In the researcher’s view, the act of listening becomes a physical activity involving the whole body and, if conscious, is an act that sensitizes to the richness of external phenomena as well as internal reality. The project will ask how by sharpening and practicing our multisensory perception we can go beyond the usual patterns of seeing, both in everyday life and in the field of art.

The research resulted in a series of original laboratories/workshops dedicated to all those interested in the topic, both amateurs and artists. In addition, as part of the scholarship, interviews with body and voice practitioners has been conducted and published on taniecpolska.pl. They reflected on the widely understood sound of the body, the corporality of the voice by bringing closer the effects of the scholarship research.
