“Blade Runner” is a dystopian futuristic vision infused with philosophical perspectives on reality and human dependencies. In a world of advanced technology, who and what counts as human? Replicants become an object of comparison, refer us back to our actual condition. How do we construct our sense of identity? Can we rely on our perception? How do we know for sure what we are? What if the greatest illusion of all is me myself? The piece investigates the tension between organic and inorganic, body and mind, origin, duration, termination date, choice – an outcome of one’s own deep and authentic desire – versus mechanical, programmed pattern. Is there the one conception of humanity or is being human a constant work in progress?
