Enjoy the month of May in a dancing rhythm. Open dance classes will be part of a two-week residency of Renata Piotrowska, who is starting work on her newest project. Scheduled to premiere right after the holidays, the performance will launch the new season of Stary Browar Nowy Taniec. Renata invites you to take part in morning classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes will be led by Janusz Orlik. Begin your day in a sprightly dancing rhythm!

The classes will be at the upper-intermediate level, but do not be afraid to give it a try even if you have not had prior dancing experience!

Renata Piotrowska, by education – she’s an actress. By practice – dance and performance maker. She started to Dance as a student AT Drama School. Since then, she took part in many dance workshops and shows, and improvisation courses (with Andrew L. Harwood, Michael Schumacher, Nigel Charnock, and at courses at The School of New Dance Development w Amsterdamie). She got scholarships and was participating in several festivals. In 2007 she was granted a residency at Stary Browar within a SOLO PROJEKT funded by Art Stations Foundation in Poznan. In 2007 & 2008 she was presenting her works during Warsaw Dance Night. In 2008 her piece was selected for Polish Dance Platform and her recent work „Unknown” was mentioned by Dance critics as one of the Best Dance Project of 2008. In her work she uses mostly improvisation and contact-improvisation (as a mean of explorations and as a final product). She is interested in social and cultural issues, cross-media art and interactions with an audience. She is also teaching improvisation on a regular basis in Poland and abroad and is organizing popular impro-jams. She’s a President of Towarzystwo Prze-Twórcze association.

Janusz Orlik, after graduating from ballet school in Warsaw became a student of Brucknerkonservatorium Linz (Austria). During his studies he became a founding member of x.IDA Dance Co. Janusz was performing in productions created by Olga Cobos, Peter Mika, Catherine Guérin, Rebekka Murgi, Nicole Caccivio, Charlotte Vincent. Since 2002 Janusz has been a regular member of Vincent Dance Theatre (Sheffield, UK). Simultaneously, Janusz creates his own choreographic pieces. His recent works include “Exérèse monobloc” (2004), “and thy neighbour as thyself” (2006) created during the first Solo Project residency at Stary Browar, “Live on stage” (2008). In 2007 he performed in “nothing” by towarzystwo gimnastyczne and in 2009 in “Happy” choreographed by Nigel Charnock, in which he was also involved as choreographer's assistant. In 2010 he joined the Belgian Kwaad Bloed Company performing in “Forces” at maltafestival2010. On January 2011, together with artists from UK, Bulgaria, Croatia and Greece, Janusz took part in a one week residency in London, starting work on a new Nigel Charnock’s production “Cold Tongue” (working title). In 2011 he collaborated and performed in “Reconstruction” by Joanna Leśnierowska. Other works include “High heels” for the ballet ensemble of The Opera House in Kraków, “Alpha” for The Contemporary Dance Scene in Poznań, “Adagio” for the Musical Theatre in Poznań. As well as performing Janusz delivers dance workshops in various venues and dance schools in Poland and abroad.
