The seminar was aimed at people interested in women’s art, and also in research into exhibition history. It aimed at a thorough exploration of women’s art exhibitions organized in Poland.
Exhibitions of women’s art appeared together with the professionalization of women’s artistic activity in the second half of the 19th century and are organized to the present day. By “exhibitions of women’s art” is understood here group exhibitions where exclusively the work of women artists is shown (not including individual shows). Despite the main principle behind their organization appearing to be constant, what does seem to change is the reasons for differentiating art made by women, the ways in which that is done and the response such actions are met with. These exhibitions can be seen as both reflecting and creating the changing convictions regarding the artistic activity of women.
