The final, tenth Grand re Union session, exactly one year after the inaugural meeting that kicked off a year-long series of online gatherings, could finally take place in hybrid form.
The final event – a live-streamed international and intercontinental improvisational JAM – celebrated our 12 months of practicing choreography, dance, improvisation, uninterrupted movement of coupled bodies and minds, embodied reflection, coming full circle: from the place where it all began, back to Poznan – and again, thanks to the live-streaming, into the whole world!
A few hours long set stretched between the continents – from Australia (Andrew Morrish in an improvisational set with Ola Bożek-Muszyńska), through California (where we were joined by one of the project curators, Julie Phelps, and great Drag Queens from San Francisco were dancing and singing), to South America (from where the next artists were broadcasting) and finally Poznań, where Berlin and Polish musicians and dancers would gather (with another edition of Peter Pleyer’s international “moving the mirror,” several DJ sets, and the participation of Poznan queer artists) – all adding up to an evening full of music, conversations about the past year, centered around the practice of improvisation, and woven together with smaller statements/reports live online from various locations around the world.
A day later, the organizers of the final session invited everyone to spend time together in nature – on beaches, in parks, in forests…. the PICNIC became an opportunity to stop in meditation and reflection around the idea of grounding, getting back in touch with the ground and nature,in contact with one’s own body and the bodies of others.
Finally, to make another circle, Joanna Leśnierowska and Patryk Lichota, together with a group of project participants, have created yet another virtual gallery – SOMAPARK – offering this time a special trip inside our bodies…
