Welcome to a special carnival edition of fajfy!
Patron of this event is Yanka Rudzka – a Polish dancer who came to Salvador (Bahia, Brazil) in 1956 to lead the pioneering Federal University Dance School of that time. Yanka, unknown in Poland until now, is considered the mother of modern dance in Salvador and one of the most important figures in Brazilian dance in general – the first to combine modern dance with the tradition of dance of Afro-Brazilian roots in her choreographic work. During the ongoing year of Polish culture in Brazil, Art Stations Foundation is implementing the YANKA RUDZKA PROJECT. Polish artists will follow in Yanka’s footsteps and embark on a journey through the traditional dance culture of Poland and Brazil. The result will be a performance with the participation of Polish and Salvadoran dancers, who will use samba, mazurkas and obereks as a starting point for their work.
We invite you to dance with Yanka! Give in to oberek and samba rhythms and swirl in the dance!
The ringleaders of the Carnival will be the Polish team of the project, headed by Joanna Leśnierowska and Janusz Orlik.
