The Ethnograph in the Field was a presentation of selected photographs from the ethnographic archive of AMU in Poznań, taken during field work by Józef Burszta and colleagues. They were taken from the late 1950s on, revealing a fascination with folk culture, folklore, daily life and folk ways of living.

The photos gathered in the exhibition portrayed a countryside and small villages, mostly Polish, which cannot be found today: with sandy roads and large central greens which are populated by geese and chickens, and where cows would sometimes graze. These are villages with simple shacks, half-timbered houses, thatched roofs, wells with shadoofs, with horse or ox harnesses, with people living with respect for the traditions of their forebears and in symbiosis with nature and among the animals which are a part of their daily lives.
