Climax. Climax. A word with many connotations.
In science, art and sex it always means the final moment towards which the whole evolves, the moment of greatest intensification, which is usually associated with a tense expectation of resolution. What, then, can we think of a spectacle titled in this way? That it announces to all and sundry some kind of climax? If so, what form will it take? What is the climax in contemporary choreography? If and when does it happen? How do we recognize it?
Unlike cinema, where with the use of certain proven formal and plot prescriptions one can easily achieve the intended effect, contemporary dance knows no miracles that would guarantee the satisfaction of the audience’s expectations. So what do the artists of Liquid 7273 want to say with the title of their latest production?
For Laurence Yadi and Nicolas Cantillon, the climax is above all a theme for the performance, hence the images of various climaxes: the crucifixion of Christ, a footballer’s expression of joy after scoring a goal, pressing the trigger of a revolver, and finally: the climax, conceived as a peak to be reached, as a reason to dance…
