The White Book (Biała Książka) is a narrative poem in blank verse which approaches the topic of death in a new, unconventional manner. It leads through Hell, Heaven and Purgatory – the lands of the Unknown, which art and literature have been struggling to penetrate for centuries.

Yet, this time we are offered a completely different presentation of the afterlife, one in which brave language serves to paint a series of different visions of death. Each of these individual passings to the afterworld is different. Each can be treated as an ultimate death test, which one day or another can take any of us by surprise. The characters which appear in the poem, painfully realistic as they are, sing songs of love and forgiveness, songs of holiness, but also songs of condemnation. The book accurately captures and analyses typical human behaviors characteristic of various archetypes, all written in first person singular. We will find here an array of personal stories, which all define themselves and acquire their shape in the final moment, facing death or God. But, as the authors doesn’t lead us into making any judgments, the book focuses on the realm of the metaphysical rather than being a moral treatise.

Bianka Rolando challenges all the perpetuating infantile visions of death. Her White Book is an uncompromising piece of literature, consisting of over a hundred and twenty separate songs, in which the innovative treatment of metaphysical and theological concepts is combined with excellent language and brave metaphor. The White Book breaks us all up into spectral colors, leaving no reader unaffected by its own structure.

The book will be published in the series “Wyobraźnia Dialogu”. The printed publication is to be accompanied by an audiobook CD recorded by Maciej Stuhr.
