The laboratory will focus on the issue of presence of the body – its possible uses in art and generated meanings. The German choreographer will propose to look at the body as a tool and an instrument at the same time. The proposed practice is based on the question: how do we understand our body? How do we perceive it? – Can we look at it as a sculpture? As an object? Or even as a work of living art? Where are the boundaries of the body? What can and what cannot we express through the body? What role does our voice play in expression? What are the possible applications of the female and male body? What are the political implications of the body in dance? Ben J. Riepe moves seamlessly between choreography and the visual arts. His workshop proposes to look at the body interchangeably as an instrument, an object, a living art object and an autonomous (human) living body. As a result, the body reveals the possibility of its simultaneous mutability and constancy, a carrier of meaning and expression, able to communicate its political, social, emotional and aesthetic aspects. The laboratory will focus on the possibilities, opportunities, problems and needs that our body generates. The work will be based on simultaneous exploration of the “art of seduction” and the seductive power of art in general.
