“Art must be beautiful” is a line taken from the video performance of Marina Abramovic from 1975. In the 21st century beauty has lost its privileged position, it has become unnecessary, which does not, however, mean that it has been eliminated – rather the contrary – it is acquiring new, updated interpretations, building upon everyday life and getting closer and closer to true life, to the human being; it is in the process of constant remodeling. Man’s perception and interpretation of the world change all the time. That is why, as W. Welsh writes: “Artists ought to be vigilant all the time and keep breaking our convenient patterns, they should show us variability and differences…”
The exhibition presented works and actions of the students and graduates from the Studio of Performance and Intermedia Actions run by prof. Izabella Gustowska at the Intermedia Department of the Poznan Academy of Fine Arts.
The exhibition was accompanied by a catalog featuring a text by Justyna Raczek, the author of “Beauty in Postmodern Culture”. The project was a joint effort of Art Stations Foundation and the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan.
