Drawing inspiration from the science of mirror neurons, which blur the boundaries between observation and action, Arno Schuitemaker’s “The Fifteen Project” (his fifteenth project) creates an inventive, intimate and vivid experience that acknowlegdes a complex network of relationships, freed from linear development in time or narrative.
The Fifteen Project reveals a shared space of action, continuously toying with established codes and thus seeking to constantly discover, unravel and reshape connections with the intriguing performers. From left to right, up and down, inside and outside, leader and seducer, dancer and audience, “The Fifteen Project” is filled with inversion, reversals and reflections. The dancers embrace playfulness and physical intensity, seeking and exploring contact and interfaces, shifting from the ordinary to the extraordinary, proposing the implicit question: How do I relate to the other?
