Contrary to what the title A Piece Danced Alone implies, this is not a solo piece. The performers are two female dancers in identical attires. They take turns to dance to popular hits, learning sequences from each other and imitating each other’s movements. The work reveals that even the movements and gestures that we regard as our very own and spontaneous are essentially a repetition. Still, the repetition may be far from perfect, and it always implies a modification in relation to the original.
