Wojciech Mochniej – choreographer, dancer, teacher – is co-founder, together with Melissa Monteros, of W & M Physical Theatre (formerly Gdansk Dance Theatre) in 1994. He was a dancer with Silesian Dance Theatre (1991-1994), with whom he performed in works by many influential New York artists, e.g. Anna Sokolov, Talley Beatty, Mark Haim, Stephanie Skura and Risa Jaraslov. He has also danced in performances by Alpo Altokoski (Finland), Avi Kaiser (Germany/Israel), Paul Ross, David Monk and Darcy McGehee (Canada). As an improvisational artist he has studied with Ray Chung, Chris Aiken and David Dorfman. While working in the theater, he studied with Polish actors: Jan Peszek, Grzegorz Bral, Jacek Ozimek and others. He has performed as a guest choreographer in projects carried out by the University of Calgary, Bruckner Conservatory in Austria and EKO Dance in Canada. He received the City of Gdansk and Lublin Award for his contribution to contemporary dance. His solo works have been presented at HE concert in Calgary, National Theatre in Warsaw and Full Moon Dance Festival in Finland. He is the Director of the International Festival of Improvisation in Zielona Gora. He lectures and performs regularly at the University of Calgary.
