Sally Banes (1950-2020) – a star of American dance criticism, an expert on the contemporary dance scene and new trends constantly emerging in art. She was the first to document the achievements of American avant-garde dance artists. She was head of the Dance Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a member of the department’s council, as well as president and honorary member of the Society of Dance History Scholars. In 2003, she received a lifetime achievement award from the Congress of Research in Dance.
