A Poznań band, Reportage, has been active on the stage on and off for 22 years now. It reached the pick of its popularity in the ’80s, when their album Up the River was released in England as a Polish response to Rock in Opposition movement in music.
They gave concerts with the duo Skeleton Crew (Fred Frith and Tom Cora), and performed at The Warsaw Marchewka ’87 Festival which drew together such musicians as David Thomas (Pere Ubu), Chris Cutler, The Wooden Birds, Miami Compact. In 2002 / 2003 Reportage was a musical one-man show, run by the group’s founder, Andrzej Karpiński. Their music reached to radio, theater and film (they played music written by Lech Jankowski the Quay brothers’ films). They create musical spectacles in which sound, image and word constitute a message that is both lyrical and philosophical. They co-operate with independent record companies and release their albums as both CDs and cassettes in Poland, the USA, Belgium, France and Italy. Henryk Palczewski (ARS2, Piła) works for the band’s promotion work in Poland and Chris Cutler (Recommended Records, London) in England.
