Marta Ziółek is a choreographer and performer. Before studying choreography at the School for New Dance Development (SNDO) in Amsterdam she studied at the Interdepartmental Individual Humanistic Studies at the University of Warsaw. In her work she focuses on expanding the field of choreographic practice and investigating new forms of expression and embodiment; she uses the language of new technologies and pop culture; she is interested in new rituals and performatics of identity. So far she has participated in workshops, projects and collaborated with choreographers and theoreticians such as Bojana Cvejić, DD Dorvillier, Deborah Hay, Maria La Ribot,Trajal Harrell, Benoit Lachambre, Ann Liv Young, Xavier Le Roy, Meg Stuart. One of her first choreographies after graduation – “Black on Black” was produced by the Hetveem Theatre in Amsterdam, co-produced by the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, STUK in Leuven, Studio Theatre and Komuna Warszawa. The latter institution produced her latest work, Do Yourself, which was named one of the best dance/choreography performances of the 2016 season by Teatr magazine (Mrozek, Puzyna Hojka). Ziółek has so far shown her choreographies in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the United States and Poland, among other countries.
