Lucy Suggate has been choreographing since 2003. Lucy’s work has won her international recognition for her unique irreverent style. In 2005, she became Associate Artist at Yorkshire Dance. In 2006, her piece Postcard was among the finalists of London’s prestigious The Place Prize. In 2007, Lucy joined, as an Artist in Residence, Daghdha Dance (who operate in a former church) in Limerick, where she conducted her own three-year research programme which turned out to be a turning point in her choreographic career. In 2009, she founded Lucy Suggate & The Bodyfarm as a base for her solo practice, which has become her major form of work and a voice in the discussion about artists’ autonomy. All of Lucy’s works are created nearly without any budget, except for the official systems of art funding, as an element of her research on the possibilities of functioning independently in contemporary reality and of exploring the possibilities of artistic creation without financial resources. In the recent years, Lucy has been interested in choreography as an extended practice, in addition to investigating approaches to artistic mentoring and the potential of fair trade dance. In 2010 and 2012, Lucy’s solos were shown at the Edinburgh Fringe to five-star reviews, which gave her access to stages across Europe. Most recently, her works have been presented in Italy, Ireland, France, Sweden Finland and Denmark.
