Jeanine Durning is a New York-based choreographer and dancer whose work is described by The New Yorker as having “the potential for philosophical revelation and theatrical catastrophe.” The basis of her most recent works is a practice of “nonstopping.” These are solo “ingings” (based on nonstop speaking), which has received over thirty-five performances in the United States, Europe, and Canada, and the group work “To Being” (based on constant movement). Her work to date has been created with the support of numerous grants and residencies including The Alpert Award for Choreography, The New York Foundation for the Arts, Movement Research Artist in Residence (New York), Dance in Process Residency (Gibney Dance, New York), and Viola Farber Residency (Sarah Lawrence College). Her most recent project is also being created through residencies, including Movement Research Exchange (Seoul Dance Center, Korea) and Rauschenberg Residency. In addition, Jeanine Durning has created over twenty commissioned works for various companies since 2002. As a dancer, she is associated with many choreographers with diverse creative interests, including Deborah Hay, with whom she has worked since 2005. She has guest lectured at Amsterdam’s SNDO, Berlin’s HZT, and New York’s Lang College at The New School and New York University Tisch School for the Arts. She is often invited to collaborate as an advisor and has so far fulfilled this role for choreographers in New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, Berlin, Brussels and Rennes.
