An excellent bass player, whose musical activity dates back to the 50s, when he was starting his career in Philadelphia, his hometown. He has performed with such jazz icons as Albert Ayler, Don Cherry, Archie Shepp, Charles Mingus, Sonny Rollins, Pharaoh Sanders or McCoy Tyner.
After a massive success, his career came to a halt which lasted many years, until in 2002 he was rediscovered by William Parker. This musical “resurrection” started another series of impressive successes and lively musical activity – since that time he has performed in nearly 4000 concerts in over 20 different countries all around the world. Collaboration with such renowned musicians as Rashied Ali, Fred Anderson, Bill Dixon, Dave Douglas or finally Marc Ribot, has reestablished his fame of one of the best bass players in the world.
