Heike
Kuhlmann

Heike Kuhlmann is dancer, choreographer, dance educator and somatic movement therapist (SME/SMT). She has been involved in dance since the age of four, starting with ballet. Over the years she has studied various forms of movement and art, focusing on contemporary dance and contact improvisation (CI). After studying classical movement and natural sciences, she earned a Master’s Degree in Choreography/Performance Studies and a Diploma in Integrative Therapy (DIPL IBMT), focusing on the BMC method, authentic movement and somatic psychology. Since 2010 she is a member of the Global Water Dances Performances Collective in Berlin, where she is artistically and organizationally involved in Global Water Dances. Her interests focus on the relationship between art and politics as well as the creative tension between art, education and therapy. She explores these aspects during regular classes for contact improvisation for families, which she considers a perfect place to experience non-hierarchical encounters. She teaches regular courses and workshops and is part of the teaching team of the basic somatic training at the Somatic Academy Berlin.
