Gregory Holt (b. 1982) makes dances in Philadelphia. He combines a somatic approach with a social view of the body inspired by popular education and critical cultural theory. He works on many collaborative and community-based projects, and his work has been shown around the US, in Canada, and Europe. His development has been supported by the Lockwood Fellowship, Workshop Foundation Budapest, the White Pines Residency, the Swarthmore Project, Philadelphia Dance Projects, and the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage through Dance Advance. He was a 2011 LAB Fellow through the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival. He studied linguistics and dance at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, USA, and movement research and pedagogy at the Institute for Dance Art in Linz, Austria. He is an artist-in-residence and a core organizer at Mascher Space Co-op.
