David Wampach began his career by studying at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Montpellier, during which he quite quickly became interested in the performing arts – first theater and then dance. He participated in the productions of several dance groups: Company Coline of Istres (1999), Ex.e.r.ce at the Centre chorégraphique national de Montpellier directed by and in Mathilde Monnier (2000) and the Brussels-based P.A.R.T.S Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker School (2001). Between 2004 and 2006 he also took part in a workshop on choreographic culture led by Laurence Loupe. In 2011 his approach to dance, borrowed from theater and visual arts, was included in the programme of Association Achles. David Wampach is the co-author of the duet “D ES R A” (2003), which he created with Pierre Mourles. He went on to create the solo “CIRCONSCIS” (2004), a radical, hypnotic trio for metronomic music – “BASCULE” (2005), “QUATORZE” (2007), a duet with pianist Aurélien Richard – “AUTO” (2008), “BATTERIE” (2008) and “BATTEMENT” (2009) which is a variation on the grand battement (leg movement in ballet) In 2011 he created two new works: “CASSETTE” – a Latin version of the ballet “Nutcracker”, and “SACRE” – an interpretation of “The Rite of Spring” created during the 2011 Montpellier Dance Festival. The same year he was a resident at Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto, where he spent six months. In 2012, he wrote and directed his first short film titled. “RITE”, which is a sequel to the performance “SACRE”. In 2013, he created the solo piece “TOUR.” David Wampach regularly collaborates with artists representing different fields of art: with director Guillaum Vincent, writer Jerom Gam and the dance group Rumba is Compas. In 2014 he was invited as a mentor to the ImPulsTanz festival organized as part of danceWEB in Vienna.
