Polish Dance Platform is a biennial presentation of the achievements of Polish contemporary dance. The main objective of this world-renowned format of national presentations is the international promotion of the most interesting performances that have been created in Poland during the last 2 years. Hence, the main audience of the program is a group of international dance specialists: journalists, curators, directors of festivals and dance centers. The platform is also usually an opportunity for a general meeting of the Polish dance community and an exchange of artistic experiences, as well as a discussion of the state and future of Polish choreography. The program of performances selected each time by the Platform’s professional independent jury is complemented by panel discussions, open studio presentations, to which the jurors invite artists whose work and future projects they believe may find interest among foreign guests, and since 2012 also the Open Platform – an open market space dedicated to the free networking of the Polish dance community with international professionals and institutions. The mission of the Polish Dance Platform is to ultimately increase the presence of Polish artists in projects and international arenas.
The Polish Dance Platform was established in 2008 and co-organized for three editions by two Poznan institutions – Art Stations Foundation and ZAMEK Cultural Center. The last Platform in Poznań in December 2012 was created in cooperation with the Warsaw-based Institute of Music and Dance (IMiT), established in 2010. On the initiative of platform’s initiators and with the consent of all partners, since the next edition the project has passed under the auspices of the IMiT becoming one of its flagship projects and has since been implemented, following the example of similar events in Europe, every two years always in a different city together with a local partner selected in a tender.
